About Our Krewe...

Mystic Krewe of Apollo de Lafayette

The Mystic Krewe of Apollo was founded in New Orleans in 1969 to foster brotherhood, unity and equality within our society. The main function was to stage an annual Bal Masque during the Mardi Gras Season.

In 1976 Apollo became a unique organization with the introduction of a sister krewe, Apollo de Lafayette. Founded and organized by Mr. Roland Dobson, the organization staged its first Bal Masque in 1977, "The Shady Lady's Ball."

Apollo's history has established its reputation of splendor, creativeness and gaiety in Lafayette. This reputation has also been maintained in other cities with the formation of associate krewes: Apollo Baton Rouge, Apollo Shreveport, and Apollo Birmingham.

The 1996 ball, entitled "I'll Drink To That", featured "Apollo Cocktails." Costumes were designed around the following libations: "The Martini", "Burgundy Wine," "Purple Passion," "Jungle Juice," "Tequila Sunrise," "Shirley Temple," "Dragon Slayer," "Napoleon Cocktail," "Between the Sheets," "Screaming Orgasm," "Sex on the Beach," "Old Fashioned," "Amaretto," "Blue Lagoon," "Manhattan," "Pina Colada," "Wedding Punch," "Planter's Punch," "Nights Caps," "Hurricane," "Bloody Mary," and "Champagne."

The ball is staged in Lafayette's Cajundome and the Captain is Ted A. Viator.
