Honorary Parade Marshal, Krewe of Barkus IV
The Mystic Krewe of Barkus IV (1996) was led by celebrity Delta Burke with the theme for this year's parade being "Tails From The Crypt."
The Parade is held every year the Sunday before Mardi Gras Weekend at 2:00pm. Pre-registration is available in person at the following locations: Poppy's Grill, 717 St. Peter, 9am-3pm everyday; and Toto Too, 901 Iberville, 10am-6pm, Wednesday - Saturday; Lark's Grooming, 947-1322, 9am-5pm; and Louisiana S.P.C.A., 944-PETS, 9am-5pm.
Registration fee is only $8 per dog. Registration fee the day of the parade will be $10. Purchase your designer t-shirt, and your "Mystic Krewe Of Barkus Doggie Bowl" at the Bowwow-tique, located at Good Friend's Bar the day of the Parade. Added excitement will be the drink specials provided by Good Friend's Bar the day of the parade: Salty Dogs, Blue Dogs, & Hot Dogs!
Her majesty, Queen Barkus IV is being selected again this year from the S.P.C.A. She will have already been adopted, and shortly after the parade will tour through out North America telling her story "Dogged Down Once, But On the High Road Now Baby!"
His Majesty, Tad King Barkus IV, is owned by Ron Williams. Tad was Grand Marshal in last year's parade, and a duke in the first parade. He resides on Mandeville Street where he enjoys tennis balls, keeping the neighborhood cats in line, and occasionally eating a good book by the fireplace.
Grand Marshal, Blaze, is owned by Kay Butler. Blaze was a Duchess in the last two parades. She spends her time volunteering for civic duties, traveling to exotic far away places, and working out daily at the gym.
Captain Jojo McWood will be returning to lead the parade procession. Her appointment book has been full this year, speeking to civic clubs, schools, and churches about her platform - Adopt A Pet!
The Krewe will parade on a 10 block course, stopping in front of Poppy's Grill, where her majesty Queen Barkus IV and his Majesty King Barkus IV, will be toasted by our celebrity guests: Teri Bartlett, Margaret Orr, Leon Impastato, Bob Landry, Angela Hill, Andre deLaBarre and Becky Allen.
The parade will continue through out the French Quarter and end at Good Friend's Bar, where everyone can enjoy "Paws To Refresh IV".
Rules of the Parade are as follow:
1. Costumes are encouraged but not mandatory.
2. Participants must have current vaccination status. (City Ordinance)
3. Krewe member must be accompanied by an escort.
4. Krewe member must be restrained (on a leash).
5. Escort is responsible for member's discharge. (City Ordiance)
6. Krewe member must not be "In Season".
7. Non Canine membership is welcome, however protection is not provided.
8. Certificates of participation will be awarded.
9. No display of political, controversial, or religious ideal are allowed.
10. No motorized vehicles are allowed.
11. Registration must be completed prior to parading.
12. Any throws must be non-edible.
13. Pre-registration is encouraged. Krewe arm bands must be displayed in order to parade.The Mystic Krewe of Barkus is a New Orleans Chartered, non-profit organization with the sole purpose of providing an entertainig parade for the citizens of New Orleans and their dogs, while benefiting local animal shelters, and National Humane Societies. The Krewe is hoping everyone will invite their family, friends, and especially their canine friends to come and enjoy Barkus' fourth parade.
